I can't put it any better than how my pastor's pastor did in a recent email:
"As I sit in my office, I am preparing for one of my favorite church services of the year: the Wednesday night service before Thanksgiving Day! Even with the fact that many people are gone, traveling for the holidays, I still look forward to it with anticipation. I love preaching on the theme of gratitude and thanksgiving! It is one that never grows old, and one that I am still learning. I am disheartened at times by how far short I fall, but, I keep pressing on! God delights in helping us all grow here.
Thanksgiving Day marks the official beginning of the “holiday season.” On my personal scale, it is my favorite holiday. It is much easier than Christmas and the frustration of trying to find the “right gift.” I know that the gift or discipline of thanksgiving always fits perfectly! (Ps.33:1) says, “Let the godly sing with joy to the Lord, for it is fitting to praise Him.” And then there’s (Ps.92:1,2) “It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night.” At any and all times we should be a people of gratitude and praise!
The saying, “If you see a turtle sitting on a fence post; you know that it got some help” is one that rings so true with me! I am what I am by the grace of God and the help and contribution of so many people! The heart that does not feel like saying “thank you!” is hardened by pride and forgetfulness. The humble heart is always amazed at God’s grace and people’s generosity."
All I can say is "Amen!"
