Katie and I met with Tom and Katlyn (from Wisconsin) this morning around 11. Hector played driver for us, as Gary has a cold. We took them to see the ruins at Panama Viejo, and the little museum that goes with it, then took a little drive tour to Casco Antiguo and saw some of the colonial architecture there. We had lunch at a Greek place...his daughter is vegetarian and I knew they had something she could eat there, then we drove out by the Canal and saw some of the ships in the shipping lane waiting to go through the locks. Later we went to the Summit Botanical Gardens and Zoo and to the Amador Causeway to look at the yachts and eat dinner. I think they had a good time...but they were really feeling the heat! They are nice people and his daughter speaks good Spanish.
Tim's trip went well, the poor Japanese man had just received word that his mother had died suddenly and basically didn't want to be alone and wanted somebody to talk with. So Tim mostly listened to him all night long as he talked about his family and stuff, and helped him finish up his business and get him off to the airport to Japan. The plane they flew on was a private jet. Tim said it was really cool with recliner type chairs and a bedroom and everything on it. The man was in town on business to open a bank here in Panama. He has Tim's name and will ask for him again when he's back in the country. Might be a good future job contact or reference for Tim someday.
